Door handle springs
Door Handle Springs
We get many enquiries about door handle springs and in some case they can be fixed and in some cases it is not possible.
There are 3 types of door locking mechanism. Unsprung, Spring assisted and fully sprung.
The Door handle springs on the fully sprung are found inside the locking mechanism ( long strip that fits inside your door) and cannot be replaced due to the availability and in some case the housing will not come apart & go back together again.
The Spring assisted mechanisms have light springs inside the mechanism and also door handle springs inside the door handles.
The Unsprung mechanisms do not have springs at all in the mechanism but just have springs in the handles.
The springs available are a cartridge (see pic below) that fit inside the door handle and return the handle to horizontal when released. If you have a door that does not have these but require springs it may be possible for you to upgrade your handles to the spring loaded handles but some redrilling of the holes in the door may be needed. Care does need to be taken to make sure you dont drill through the mechanism inside. As a service engineer I usually remove the locking strip to check there is enough clearance for any new screws before drilling.
