Description
This multipoint gear box has been used on numerous door locking systems over many years and can be found on some of the major brand doors like B & Q etc.
The 45mm version of this lock is used on the Composite door sold By B & Q.
The gearbox has a deadbolt and a latch and the backset can be either 35mm or 45mm. The same gearbox can be used on the Saracen, Laird and Surelock systems.
The latch is easily turned around to suit both left or right handed doors using a pozi drive screw driver.
A free starbit is included to help the job along.

Frequently Asked Questions
You need to measure the pz (shown as “A” on our guide) and the backset (shown as “B” on our guide).

This depends on your existing gearbox and whether an alternative is available and we always have to match up with the existing “holes” in your door. Call us on 01204 652211 and we can help you with this.
The most common bit used to remove a gear box is a torx t20 although in some instances a square drive can be used which can normally found in most drill bit sets.
A Dual spindle has 2 spindles at different heights. This means that the levers / moving parts of the door handle will be at different levels on the inside and outside. A Split spindle is made of 2 parts that meet inside the gearbox. The levers / moving parts of the door handle will be at the same level. A Single spindle is one long part which goes right through the door. The levers / moving parts of the door handle will be at the same level. To distinguish between a split and single spindle you will need to remove them from the door and look.
No, as you do not necessarily need to change the barrel when changing the gearbox so the gearbox is sold on its own own. If you need a new cylinder, please click here.
We try to put these guides on each gearbox page. If its not there please call us on 01204 652211 and we’ll find the instructions for you.
Unfortunately not all gearboxes can be purchased separately. Contact us if you can’t see your gearbox on our website and we can tell you if its available or not.

ERA, SARACEN, SURELOCK REPLACEMENT
Very good product, arrived promptly

Era gearbox
Had to modify the door plate slightly as dead bolt is a bit thicker, and use the old door catch, (easy to do) but as the door is 13 years old it was to be expected, and easy to do. It is nice to find a company as good as it claims. Highly recommend.

Saracen gearbox with deadbolt
The gearbox arrived on time The paperwork said it contained a star bit but it was missing Also the deadbolt was thicker than the original so I had to modify the door strip to get it to work

Purchase for a gearbox
Superb and really quick delivery
-
gearbox replacement
Got the right replacement by sending in a picture of the defective one. Works perfectly, thanks.

ERA Gearbox
Easy to fit. But possibly not an exact copy of the original.

It's all about the service.
The gearbox itself works perfectly and does what it says on the tin. More important, in my view, is the customer service. Handles and Hinges are the only supplier I have found that really use the benefits of the Internet. They take away the worry of choosing the wrong item with a really useful online advice and product recognition service. I live in London but will be using them as a matter of course in the future.

Very good replacement
This was a replacement lock for a 9 yr old uPVC door. The width of the deadbolt in the original lock was (5.5mm) roughly 1mm narrower than the new one which meant opening up the slot (in the long front plate running from top to bottom on the edge of the door) to accommodate it. The company were very helpful informing me that the new size was to meet the latest insurance standards and that this was the only way to overcome what is quite a common problem without the expense of a whole new front plate. After carrying out the alteration the lock fitted and operated perfectly. There was a star drive included with this lock although not required in this instance. I have ordered other products from this company in the past and I'm very satisfied with their customer service and speed of delivery.

Excellent replacement
I have given this product a top rating because of the speed of service, price and quality of the unit. There was no star bit supplied, but I did not need one to replace the unit. the only problem I had was that the deadbolt was slightly thicker than the original so I had to file the door plate to accommodate this. I spoke to the company about this and they were not aware of the difference with the original ERA unit. Would definitely deal with this company again. Last time I had a problem with another door it cost me £200 to call out repair man. As long as you have basic DIY skills and suitable tools you can easily do this yourself.
